About Norman United Church of Christ

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about Norman United Church of Christ and our community. Norman United Church of Christ was established in Norman, OK in 2006. We are a plant from Mayflower Congregational UCC in Oklahoma City. We hope that after you look through our website and attend a worship, you will consider becoming a more active part of our growing community of faith.

We are a plant church of the United Church of Christ. In 1957, a mix of Congregationalist, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Evangelical and Reformed Churches created the United Church of Christ--the most progressive Protestant denomination in America. The UCC has been at the forefront of movements for peace and justice since its inception--inheriting the work of its predecessor denominations (including the ordination of the first woman to the ministry and the work of Christian abolitionists), and actively working for civil rights, women’s rights, and now gay rights. The first denomination to ordain an openly gay man in 1974, the UCC has steadfastly worked to insure equal rights, and fight discrimination of every kind.

Norman United Church of Christ is an intentionally open and affirming community, which means that we accept everyone exactly how they are. We are a people who believe that faith must engage both our hearts and our minds, that the Bible must be taken seriously enough not to be read literally and that our primary call as Christians is to practice love and compassion. Our Biblical and religious traditions also teach us that we must be engaged in the world, seeking the "Kingdom of God" in our efforts to establish peace, justice and hope as foundational aspects of our daily lives.

We are interested in a Christianity that is life-affirming for all.  Therefore we are non-dogmatic, we practice a completely open communion table and we try to provide a multitude of ways for people to encounter God both in worship and in the general life of the church.  We invite you to come to the table of God - the place where all are fed!

Our Mission Statement

We are a Micah 6 church who believes that our call is: "To seek justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God..." - Micah 6:8
